Sustainability at Belcolade

Cacao-Trace : a unique sustainable cocoa program

Our Cacao-Trace program helps building a truly sustainable future for chocolate products and everyone involved.

We master the fermentation process to ensure our chocolate has a Great Taste. Doing Good is our focus so Cacao-Trace farmers benefit from the value they create. Our unique Chocolate Bonus and Quality Premium result in life changing impact for our cocoa farmers. We support agroforestry and reforestation and work to reduce CO2 in cocoa farming, aiming to plant 1,300,000 trees in 6 Cacao-Trace origin countries by 2025. We commit to customers and consumers offering better, sustainable chocolate thanks to superior taste and tangible impact on everyone involved.

100% recycle-ready, sustainably produced packaging

We take concrete actions to reduce the amount of single-use plastic in our operations and make all packaging materials fully recyclable by 2025; helping reduce Belcolade’s overall environmental footprint, but also encouraging and enabling our customers to reduce their own climate impact.

Our new packaging, 100% recycle-ready, sustainably produced and designed for a better customer experience, will help our customers achieve their sustainability goals.

A sustainability blueprint on the Belcolade site

In the heart of Belgium, in Erembodegem, Belcolade’s facility is expanding. As well as significantly increasing capacity and boosting flexibility to better serve customers worldwide, and accelerating innovation; the entire Belcolade site will become world’s first carbon-neutral chocolate factory. It will run 100% on renewable electricity and therefore be completely free from fossil fuels. The facility will also source 90% of its water from collected rainwater.
