Belcolade Launches New Organic Fair Trade

3 July 2007

Customers using Belcolade’s new Organic Fairtrade Chocolate will enable consumers to make a real difference to the communities where the cocoa is produced. This is because Fairtrade approval guarantees that the producer is paid a price that covers the cost of production, plus a Premium to enable producer organizations to invest in social, economic or environmental improvements.

Presented in packaging carrying the Fairtrade Mark, the new range consists of low viscosity lait, blanc and noir chocolates, as well as one additional very low viscosity noir chocolate reference. These are all ideal for moulding, enrobing, dipping and spraying.

All of the chocolates' ingredients are totally organic, which means the cocoa, cane sugar and vanilla are grown without pesticides or fertilisers, and only milk from livestock that has been fed and reared organically is used.  Organic lecithin has also been sourced for use in some of these recipes, making the range 100% organic in every sense.

Belcolade has also launched a range of noir and lait chocolate which is made using cocoa from Rainforest Alliance approved farms in Costa Rica.

The Fairtrade Foundation is an independent certification body which awards the Fairtrade Mark to products that meet international Fairtrade Standards, guaranteeing that disadvantaged producers are getting a better deal. Today, more than five million people - farmers, workers and their families - across 59 developing countries benefit from the Fairtrade system. For more information visit www.fairtrade.net
